The West Coast Big Band has delved into the archive of innovative arrangements of the well-known German orchestra leader Peter Herbolzheimer (1935 – 2010).
Herbolzheimer, trombonist with Bert Kaempfert, among others, gained great fame as an arranger and composer for German films, TV series and major events (including the 1972 Olympic Games). With his own orchestra, Peter Herbolzheimer Rhythm Combination & Brass (RC&B), he performed, in addition to straight-ahead jazz, innovative jazz fusion with a powerful band of European and American greats.
Several guest soloists will be invited for each concert who have played a special role in the Peter Herbolzheimer Rhythm Combination & Brass (RC&B).
The link with the Netherlands is special: big names such as Ack van Rooyen, Bart van Lier, Ferdinand Povel and Peter Tiehuis played in RC&B for many years and this band also frequently played pieces by the Dutch composers Jerry van Rooyen and Rob Pronk.
The West Coast Big Band from The Hague, conducted since 2015 by Nils van Haften, has evolved into a semi-professional orchestra that is not afraid of challenging projects. A program of beautiful Herbolzheimer standards and originals has been put together for this occasion.
